Why Stress Causes Weight Gain
Now a days Stress is as much a part of life as are Tea and coffee. It can be just as risky to our health. Stress and weight gain are directly proportional to each other. People usually say that eating habits are all that affect weight gain. But another major cause of weight gain is Stress. The only model of weight gain people are familiar with is consumption of too much calories but stress adds to it and weight gain is multiplied.
Below are some of the ways by which stress can contribute to weight gain:
Sugar Levels in Blood are altered due to prolonged stress. It results in mood swings, fatigue and sometimes conditions like hyperglycemia. Concentration of glucose in the blood increases abnormally. Stress keeps on altering the glucose level in blood which may be low or high and thus free fatty acids from lipid stores are increased. All this causes even more disruption in body. People experiencing stress crave more for sweets which are less healthy and thus leading to increased gain in weight.
Chronic Stress can also cause weight gain. The stress hormone present in body is cortisol. When a person is in stress various hormones are released in body as some unusual responses are triggered. Cortisol results in contributing to weight gain in many ways as its excessive release affects the fat storage. Greater levels of abdominal fat are directly or indirectly caused by higher levels of stress. Metabolism is slowed down by too much stress hormone that is cortisol. It causes more weight gain than a person would normally experience. This also makes dieting more problematic and resulting in weight gain.
Too much stressed and have no time for exercise. It results in abnormal increase in weight gain. As the demands on your schedule goes on increasing and thus exercise may be one of the last things on your to-do list. If it is so than that is another major cause of gradual weight gain. Exercise is often found unmarked on to-do list at the end of the day as you are busy sitting in traffic and clocking hours at your desk. So stress is unfortunately responsible for weight gain.
