    Why Is Brown Rice Favored ?

    Organic foods, high fiber diet, green and yellow foods are gaining importance for healthy eating. For the health conscious, eating healthy and staying fit is the tag line. Certain foods were looked down due to lack of appeal though it was endowed with health benefits and thus bereft of good nutrition. One such food item that went untouched was brown rice . Earlier it was shunned for its texture ,the brown color and flavor.

    But now the trend has changed , brown rice is preferred over white rice for its many nutritional benefits. The rich nutritional value of the brown rice is making it a staple food for many in the West. Let us try to know why it should  reach to your palate.

    Brown rice is unrefined complex carbohydrate with health boosting nutrients. If you are stressed out with work and need more energy, go for brown rice as it is rich in B vitamins, it provides energy and active metabolism. If you are having cholesterol,it is an ideal choice as it is loaded with fiber which can reduce the cholesterol level and also gives a feeling of satiety.

    To have a healthy heart consume it on a regular basis to keep the blood pressure at bay and reduce the risk of cardiac disease. Brown rice keeps you pepped up with minerals such as manganese, selenium and magnesium. If you are looking for weight loss, then turn to brown rice.

    If you are having white rice, you are simply adding carbohydrate to your system to give you energy with less  nutrients and devoid of fiber. White rice breaks down fast and turns into glucose (sugar) after digestion and enters the blood stream increasing the blood sugar level. On the other hand brown rice is digested slowly due to the fiber content and moreover it uses fat to break down the fiber thus causing weight loss.

    But remember not to overdo in consuming brown rice to reap the health benefits, because  brown rice bran inhibits the absorption of calcium and iron. Over indulging in brown rice can lead to mineral deficiencies.Savor the goodness of brown rice , look beyond the texture and appeal to enjoy robust health and to look fit and trim.
