Having said that you also need to remember that it is small enough to fit the size requirements as stated by the airlines or your bagged might end up getting checked in along with your other bags.
Having a bag which is soft sided is also an added advantage in the event you are stranded at an airport as it can serve as a pillow for you to rest on. This would also ensure that your luggage is not left unattended to while you sleep.
Pack at least two to three changes of underwear in your carry on luggage and a set of extra clothes. If you’re on a long flight this would ensure that you can change while in transit itself and would help you avoid using airport bathrooms. While travelling overseas you might feel the urge to freshen up especially if you have been on a long flight and are waiting to get on another one and this would help you do just that quickly.
Use a plastic zip up storage bag to care your daily toiletries. A toothbrush, a small tube of tooth paste, face wash, shampoo and lotion should all be included to ensure that you have all the things that you might require. The plastic zip up storage bag would also ensure that your luggage stays clean incase of a spill.
Pack a large bottle of water. Air in an airplane is dry and you should keep yourself hydrated. Use your water sparingly and consume water that is offered onboard. This would serve you well and ensure that you have adequate water especially if you have to wait for long periods of time for a connecting flight.
Add snacks to your bag to munch on incase you get hungry. Don’t assume that you will find something or you will have the time to make purchases inside the airport or in between flights. Add a pack of wet wipes to help you clean up quickly.
In case you require medication like insulin make sure you carry it in your carry on luggage and report early for your flight. Carrying a needle will take you a little longer to get through security but its well worth the effort.
