What Is In Sugar That Causes Diabetes?
Sugar is a term for a crystalline substance namely sucrose, lactose and fructose. Sugar is distinguished by a sweet flavor which is most of the time being used in foods in order to achieve the Sweet flavor. Sugar came from sugar cane. It was the Indians who developed a way of turning sugarcane juice into granulated crystals which is now what we call sugar or sucrose. There are now a couple of types of sugar; there is granulated sugar and brown sugar. It has been discovered that too much intake of sucrose which is another name for sugar has a lot to do with type 2 diabetes, obesity and even tooth decay. There has been a discovery that there exists an alternative non-sugar-based sweetener, where most people have been attracted to especially those who have problems with their sugar level.
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a state where a person has a high blood sugar level (glucose) which is a result if the body is not producing adequate insulin or because the body cells is not responding as it should be to the insulin produced. While insulin is a type of hormone created by the pancreas which allows the body cells to absorb glucose and turn into energy.
This is already a complicated condition where if the body cells do not absorb glucose anymore, then this glucose will accumulate in the blood which is called hyperglycemia. There are three types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes is when the body fails to produce insulin, type 2 diabetes when cells fail to use insulin properly and gestational diabetes, when a pregnant woman has high glucose level during pregnancy although she has never had diabetes before.
Sugar and Diabetes
One type of diabetes that is related with sugar is type 2 diabetes formerly known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or NIDDM or adult-onset diabetes. A condition that is distinguished by high glucose and when there is insulin resistance and comparative deficiency in insulin. Glucose is found in sugar and research has discovered that too much intake of sugar can cause type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a complicated condition.
If the body cell of a person does not absorb glucose, then glucose will build up in the blood of the person which is now called hyperglycemia. Cells does not absorb properly might be because the body is not producing enough insulin which is a hormone in the pancreas that makes the body cells absorb glucose. So if a person takes in too much sugar then definitely it will lead to diabetes.
