The person who has tooth loss can do the replacement for functional reasons by partial dentures if the missing teeth are few and they are scattered here and there of the arches of jaws. There are two types of partial dentures namely ‘Fixed partial dentures’ (FPD) and ‘Removable partial dentures (RPD). A person can choose between these two whatever suits their teeth with the consultation of a good dentist.
Fixed partial dentures
The fixed partial dentures are permanently fitted in position with the support of attachments to roots, implants and other natural existing teeth. The bridging of teeth is also known as the fixed partial denture. According to study of dentistry fixed partial dentures can survive approximately till five years. Free end pontics, composite fibres and selected ceramic alloys are used for integral polymeric or metal polymeric bridges of fixed partial denture.
Removable partial dentures
Removable partial dentures are placed inside the mouth with the support of natural teeth and are attached to natural looking pink artificial gums. One advantage of removable partial dentures is that you can take them out whenever you feel like taking them out in case feeling uncomfortable and for cleaning purposes. For removable partial dentures composite resins which are highly filled are used.
How long the partial dentures function
It depends on the care you take of your dentures how long it lasts. A proper cleaning and consulting the dentist every six months will give the dentures a lasting for the rest of your life. It is outside element fixed inside your mouth, so it is natural that you feel uncomfortable at the beginning. You get used to having them within a couple of weeks. But as days pass and you still feel uncomfortable you must se your dentist as soon as possible.
