What Are Diva Cups
There are many alternatives to tampons and pads. Most women are not aware of the brand DivaCup which is a menstrual cup that can be reused after every wash. A DivaCup can be used in place of absorbent items that are traditionally used during menstrual cycle. The cup is inserted inside the vagina to collect the flow of blood. DivaCups have not yet gained popularity among women despite their easy to use and clean feature.
The DivaCups can be slipped easily into the vagina and the shape of the cup allows for the blood to flow into it. The cup is easy to take out and can be used again after a good wash.
A DivaCup can be worn for 12 hours straight and does not leak like tampons and pads. When compared to a tampon the DivaCup lasts almost two times more. The heaviness of menstrual flow is also a determining factor.
Silicone is the material used for making DivaCup. There are a few risks involved with silicone. Some women are known to have had allergic reactions because of the use of silicone. However, there are no phthalates, plastic, BPA or latex present in the cup. It is advised not to use lubricants or any other gels and creams to slide the cup in as this might destroy the silicone of the cup.
Always wash the DivaCup with non-perfumed soap and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Next, put the cup in a pan of boiling water and let it boil for twenty minutes. Keep checking to see that the pan has not run dry. Add more water if this be the case. Remove the cup from pan after twenty minutes. Air dry the cup and store it in the cotton pouch that comes with it or put it in an air tight jar that does not allow for germs or dust particles. Change the cup if it doesn’t clean properly. It becomes harder to clean the cup if the silicone gets damaged.
Before inserting the cup ensure that your hands are properly cleaned. If the cup or the user’s hands are not washed properly there are chances of infection.
