Weight Loss Tips for Women Over 40
Losing weight for women over 40 years of age is no doubt a challenge. At this age many women enter into menopause. Due to these hormonal changes, the calories they take are stored as fat cells in the body. As we age, our metabolic rate also decreases. The storage of fat goes through redistribution.
Now fat is stored more in the stomach region than in legs and other part of the body. But if you are a woman over 40, you too can lose weight and maintain a good appearance, provided you apply new strategies. For maintaining control over your weight, keeping your blood sugar level under control is necessary.
First of all, set realistic goals that suit your age. If you are dreaming of achieving a weight that you had in your twenty’s, you aim is incorrect. Calculate your BMI and try to set a target based on that. Unrealistic goals will lead you nowhere. Apply new strategies to attain your goal.
Keeping your blood sugar level stable is necessary for losing weight. This can only be possible when we have good control over the choice of food we consume and the quantity of food we eat. Instead of eating regular 3 meals a day, you should eat 5 meals a day with limited potions.
Many dieticians suggest eating the largest meal at lunch and smallest at dinner because at mid-day calorie needs are highest and at night calorie needs are very less. So reduce the consumption of carbohydrate at dinner. Carbohydrates, which provide energy, are easily used up at day time when our body needs maximum energy. At night when body’s energy requirement is less, carbohydrates are generally converted into body fat.
You have to make some changes in your eating habits that can maintain a balance and help you to manage your blood sugar level. Breakfast should consist of lot of protein along with raw vegetables and fruit. During lunch you can take full meal consisting lean meat, protein and vegetables.
Most women at this age are too busy to look after themselves. They juggle between family, their career, children and sometimes aging parents. This often leads to eating junk food, skipping breakfast and neglecting health. Eating right food and hydrating yourself through out the day is the most essential thing you should do to maintain your health.
For losing weight, exercise is most important. Regular exercise helps in burning fat and raises metabolism. For losing weight successfully, both aerobic exercise and weight training are required. Start with walking, jogging, or swimming, whatever you like.
Eat healthy well balanced food and do exercise regularly. Eventually you will be able to lose some pounds and feel light and healthy.
