Waterfall for Your Garden: An Introduction
A garden is no doubt a place of beauty in a house. But who does not want to make it more attractive and pleasing? So, often people choose to have a landscaped garden.
A landscaped garden will not only have different types of plants and flowers, but it should also have various other objects like rocks and water bodies. Sometimes people like to have decorations also. But here, our point of interest is the water that we can incorporate in our landscaped garden.
Water bodies in a landscaped garden include lily pools, streams and waterfalls. Of these the commonest are the lily pools and waterfalls. Often the waterfalls run into the pools and any moving water adds sparkle to your garden.
In fact, waterfalls help in recycling the stale water of your garden. If you have a small pool in the garden, it is obvious that you will have some ornamental fish in there. Waterfalls help to add valuable oxygen to the water.
Moreover the constant gurgling and splashing creates a beautiful noise that helps to screen many unwanted noise of the daily world. The sound of flowing water gives mental peace also.
Remember that you can put up a fountain anywhere in the garden and it can look good. But for a waterfall you will have to plan it and incorporate it into the total landscaping plan.
The beauty of a waterfall is that you can have it anywhere from a flat ground to a terrace garden and there is no need to buy a house on the hill slopes for it. The dirt that you gather when digging a pool is enough to make the undulation or slope that will be needed for making the place from where water will fall.
The things you need for a waterfall are two pools or ponds; one at the bottom and one at the top of the pile or mound from where water will overflow, and a pump.
Always make the lower pool much bigger than the upper pool because the volume of water for the upper pool will be supplied by the lower one and you do not want the lower one to dry up in the process.
In fact, it should never appear that water in the lower pool has diminished once you start the pump. This pump and a pipe will carry this water to the top.
