What are Warts?
A wart or verrunca denotes a small tumor formed on the hands, feet, and genital region of the body. It is very rough in nature and looks like forming a structure of cauliflower over the affected region. Further, it is a contagious disease caused by the spread of a virus, named human papillomavirus (HPV). In addition, the disease can spread over or transfer to the normal person by using same towel that has been used by the infected person or by wearing clothes of infected person.
The recovery period of the infection can vary from some months to a year or several years, depending on every individual case. Further, recurrence of the disease is possible because of the incomplete or improper treatment given to treat the disease.
Cause of Warts
Main cause behind this infectious disease is a virus, named human papilloma virus or HPV. The virus exists in the form of 100 strains in which some types like Type1, 2, and 3 act as a main initiator of common warts. Here, Type1 causes deep plantar on the feet and palmar warts on the hands, Type 2 causes filiform warts and plantar warts, and Type 3 causes flat warts.
Warts on genital region or anogenital warts are caused due to a number of HPV including Type 6, Type 11 or Type 39. The virus is very dangerous in nature and can cause severe complications like oral cancer, tracheal, and lung cancers.
Further, as said above warts are highly contagious and can be transferred from an infected person to other normal person. It can be spread by touching the affected region of the infected person or by getting in touch with the affected region.
Especially, the disease spread speedily after the sexual intercourse or sex between the infected person and an uninfected person. This disease can be prevented by practicing protected sex. If the wart is caused on the cervix of a woman, then it becomes very hard to prevent it from being got transferred to the man with whom she is sexually related. It is due to the fact that the warts are not at all visible to the woman having it and she herself is not at all able to judge the presence of it.
A vaccine, named Gardasil, is given to prevent the body from the infection caused due to this HPV virus. Reoccurrence of warts is quiet possible after the treatment also. So, it is recommended to avoid moist places and keeping the treated area moist .It is because of the fact that the virus grew double in the moist condition.
