Baking soda (NaHCO3)or sodium bicarbonate, which we commonly use in our homes for baking food can be used in numerous ways. People hardly know how this white crystalline powder which tastes slightly alkaline can be used for cleaning, buffering, deodorizing and even for fire extinguishing.
Applications
• Baking soda can be used as deodorant to remove odor from any particular container.
• To whiten your teeth and freshen your mouth, gargle with 1/2 glass of water added with ½ teaspoon baking soda.
• If you want to clean well and remove odor from your denture, mouth guard or retainers, soak them in warm soda water for at least 10 minutes. They will become clean and odor free.
• Baking soda is very useful in removing hair dye spots or the residue hair styling products leave behind. Without doing any harm to your hair it will clean your hair, if you use a pinch of baking soda while shampooing your hair.
• Clean your combs and hair brush by soaking them over night in baking soda water.
• To remove strong odor from your hands as well as clothes, rub them with soda water and rinse.
• To get relief from skin irritation, skin rashes, and diaper rashes of your baby, add 2 tablespoon of baking soda in the bath water. Not only will it relieve irritation, it has the power to soften the skin as well.
• To get your clothes sparkling clean and for removing complete dirt, mix 3/4 spoon full baking soda along with detergent and soak them for ½ hour.
• Always keep baking soda ready as a measure to put out fires in stove, car or rug without damaging the surface.
• To remove germs and clean your refrigerator and deodorize it, use baking soda. After cleaning the fridge put some baking soda in an open container inside it. It will keep your fridge odorless because it has the power to absorb odor. In the same way, keep your dishwasher odor less, if you just sprinkle a little soda and run your dishwasher along with soap.
• Sprinkle little baking soda in water and wash your fruits and vegetables in them. Take them out and wash them in running water. This will make them germ free.
There are innumerable benefits of baking soda, besides using them for raising the batter. These tips are only few of them.
