Normally urine is bacteria and viruses free but contains salts, fluids and waste products. An infection transpires when a microorganism that is present in the digestive tract enters the threshold of urethra and starts to reproduce asexually. Presence of Urethral Sphincter protects the bacteria from coming inside the urethra. The length of urethra is also long enough for bacteria to travel up till the bladder. Just not that, each time someone urinates, any bacteria that is present in the bladder also gets flushed out.
The main cause of infection in the urinary tract can be entering of bacteria to the kidneys through the bloodstream. Some of the bacteria may even get through the kidney filters to the urine. This kind of infection is generally seen in new-borns since their filters are immature. The main symptoms of UTI are burning sensation on urinating, showing up of cystis, blood in urine and pain in abdomen.
