Treating Split Ends
Split end is a condition that gives each girl nightmares at some point of time in their life. They are usually associated with long hair, but can also be found in short hair that is not maintained properly. Everyone who tries growing their hair face this problem without fail. They occur when the hair’s protective cuticle is stripped at the end of the hair fiber. The hair splits us into 2 or 3 strands and is usually seen in dry and brittle hair
Some of the important causes of split ends include:
• Over-washing of the hair can lead to split ends.
• Detangling the hair roughly or using improper techniques
• Lack of maintenance such as trimming hair after regular intervals.
• Trimming hair using defective scissors
• Too much use of chemical treatments such as perms, hair color or relaxers.
• Overuse of hot styling tools such as hot curlers, irons, hot combs or blow dryers.
• Effects of environmental factors like damage due to cold, heat or wind.
• Frequent use of gels, sprays, and other styling products.
• Using low quality hair care products
To reduce the chances of occurrence of split ends, here are certain tips that should be followed:
• Trimming is the best remedy for getting rid of split ends. Regular trimming is important to prevent its occurrence.
• Wash hair from root to tip, particularly for the brittle and dry hair.
• Wash and condition hair regularly to keep hair healthy.
• Once a week while conditioning hair, apply conditioner from root to tips and cover your hair with a shower cap. After this, cover the shower cat with a towel dipped in lukewarm water for 10 minutes. It is a great way to eliminate split ends.
• Use a shampoo with moisturized if your hair is too dry.
• Regularly massage your hair with lukewarm oil to avoid occurrence of split ends. Choose from amongst coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil.
• Avoid combing or brushing hair too vigorously to avoid causing split ends. Harsh treatment of hair can remove the cuticle layer from hair strands. So always use a wide toothed comb for detangling.
• Always brush hair after it is dry. Brushing wet hair not only cause hair loss but also leads to split ends.
