Tips to Reduce Stress
When everything seems to be against us, we are under pressure from the outside world or we are overwhelmed and finding no way to solve our problem; this emotional and physical status is called stress. In fact any situation that we are unable to cope with and that challenges our well-being is stress.
When we are unable to deal with the situation and we are under stress the reaction is tension, loss of concentration, irritability and some physicals reaction like fast heartbeat and headache.
Here are few tips to beat stress:
1. To come out of stress and relax, start exercising for at least 20 minutes a day. Taking a brisk walk or doing light aerobic exercise can help you to relax. If you are hard pressed for time, try to get down one stop earlier from bus or train and walk the distance. Watch TV, read good books or take up a new hobby of swimming or dancing; anything you like. The idea is to take out some time for yourself and relax.
2. To calm your mind, try meditating. Sit on the floor in a relaxed position. Now close your eyes and take a deep breath. Focus on a word like “OM’ or you can focus on your own breathing and concentrate. The purpose is to spend some distraction-free minutes. Initially the troubled thought or worries will try to distract your concentration but with practice you will become calm and composed. Take deep breath several times. Do it everyday for at least 10 minutes in a quiet place. A calm and happy person can think positively and finds solution to his problem which is troubling him.
3. Laughter is a good medicine for relieving stress. It is a natural immune booster and can lower blood pressure. Studies show that when we laugh our body releases endorphins, which is natural painkiller of the body. So make situation in your family so that you can laugh remembering silly incidents of your childhood; watch cartoon films and comedy serials with your children and family members. If your situation doesn’t allow you to laugh, try fake laughter. This can even relax your muscles.
Make efforts to sleep in time. A bed time bath by adding few drops of essential oil like sandalwood or Ylang-ylang in warm water can help you to relax from a hectic day schedule and ensure good sleep. Try to take your lunch in time so that you can keep a gap of two hours between dinner and bed time. Eat nutritious food.
These tips will help to balance your life and you will be able to come out of stress.
