The Weather Wreaking Havoc On Our Health
The effect of weather is undeniable on our health. We have seen people blaming the weather for their joint pains, unbearable headache and many other health problems. We have noticed many arthritis patients complaining about more pain in their joints during rainy season.
Many people feel the lack of energy on cloudy days. The temperature effects our energy level directly. When we are hot, our blood vessels expand and blood flows quickly throughout the body towards the skin. When we are cold, blood vessels behave exactly opposite, contracting to trap the heat inside.
With proper exercise, diet, and understanding our body’s sensitivity towards each climate, we can live a healthy life, not only in winters but during all season. A long term solution can be achieved by making certain changes in our life style, which no drugs can offer.
When we are aware of the effect of environmental changes on our health, we can prepare ourselves to face the subtle changes in a more responsible way. We should not depend solely upon drugs that have endless side effects to protect ourselves against seasonal disorder. The effect of seasonal and environmental changes are more drastic to some people depending on their blood circulation, physical condition, pre existing disease and brain chemistry etc. in comparison to others. For example, for a patient of depression, taking an anti-depression medication will simply cover up the symptoms for the period of time the patient is on the drugs.
When you are aware of body’s sensitivity towards any particular weather, you can take care of your health in a better way. For instance, in cold weather you get tired easily. There are chances that your blood circulation is not up to the par. When the weather is warm, it promotes blood circulation, but in winter months we need to do exercise to maintain blood circulation. Even light exercise like stretching or yoga can make a difference. Regular brisk walk, dancing or playing badminton can send oxygen to those tired organs. Warm yourself up with sunlight. These things will keep your blood moving.
We have noticed that not only there are more strokes during winter months, but its severity and fatality also increases during this period. Stroke means disturbance of blood circulation. Oxygen reaches every organ by means of blood circulation. So when people get cold, in attempt to provide heat, the bodily function slows down. If external heating is not provided, the poor blood circulation can cut off vital oxygen to the heart, resulting in a heart attack. That is why to improve blood circulation, exercise is so important.
Instead of simply reacting to weather associated disease that triggers up with the changes in weather, we can use proactive methods to get rid of them like by taking proper diet and doing exercises regularly.
