The Link between Air Pollution and Asthma
There are many people who are affected by the asthma problem. Asthma has become very common disease these days. It is a kind of inflammatory disease where there is obstruction of airflow.
An individual suffering from asthma may face symptoms like cough, wheezing, breath shortness and chest tightness. An individual may face the problem of asthma due to various reasons like genetic behavior, exacerbation and environmental pollution. Air pollution, which is a form of environmental pollution, is one of the major factors, which aggravates the problem of asthma.
It is very important to understand here that asthma is not caused by air pollution. Air pollution aggravates the problem of asthma in patients who are already suffering from asthma. Due to higher air pollution, an individual finds great level of difficulty in breathing, thus aggravating the problem of asthma. Many studies have been conducted till now to prove that higher level of air pollution aggravates the symptoms of asthma in the asthmatic patients.
Airways of asthmatic people are hypersensitive. This implies that there is constriction and inflammation in the airways, thus resulting in breath shortness, wheezing and coughing. Any kind of irritating air stimulant like ozone or cigarette smoke may result into an asthmatic attack.
The impact of heat and sun on oxygen levels in the air results in ozone gas, which is a very harmful kind of air pollution. Air pollution may also be triggered due to the impact of chemicals on the air that are released by various gas pumps, chemical plants, vehicle emissions and power plants.
Also, there are many people who like to smoke. Cigarette smoking is not only harmful for the person who smokes, but is also harmful for others. The air is polluted to a great extent due the smoke of cigarette.
All the above discussed factors result in higher levels of air pollution, thus having a very bad impact on the health of the asthmatics. Also, as the level of air pollution increases, risk of getting an asthmatic attack increases. Not only adults, but kids are being impacted badly due to higher level of air pollution these days.
