Strengthen Your Immunity System
Though monsoon brings great relief from summer with its cool shower, it is also a season which affects our natural immunity system. That is why it we often suffer from runny noses and fever. Hot and humid weather makes us sick. But there are few natural and ordinary things in our kitchen or refrigerator that help us to strengthen our immunity system.
Vitamin D and C are necessary to boost our natural immunity system. Sunlight, needed for synthesis of vitamin D, is very rare at this time because most of the time the sky remains cloudy. Other than sunlight the natural source of vitamin D is cod liver oil. This oil is available in tablet form which is easily to consume.
These days pollution has depleted the ozone layer and this allows more UV rays to enter. UV rays are harmful and can create skin cancer also. So cod liver and other fish oils are no doubt a good options as sources of vitamin D.
To get vitamin C eat fruits, especially citrus fruits. Lemon, orange, pineapple, etc. are great sources of vitamin C. To boost your energy add a few drops of lemon in warm water and drink in empty stomach in the morning. Children often suffer from runny nose in the morning and in spite of medication and other care it does not stop.
Provide them a concoction of lemon, honey, ginger and pepper. Boil julienned or crushed ginger in water. Strain the water and preserve it in refrigerator. Before you consume, take a half cup of it, warm it, and add lemon drops and a teaspoon of honey. Mix well and drink it. This concoction works best if it is taken in the morning. The benefit starts showing within a few days.
Fibrous foods are very effective in increasing immunity power though most of us do not eat this in large amount. Fiber helps us to flush out body wastes and toxins from our body. Green leafy vegetables like spinach, okra, pulses are good sources of fiber.
Eat vegetables like carrot which increase immunity. Add colorful vegetables such as tomatoes, spinach, onions and broccoli and eat them raw to get all types of vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy. Drink adequate water to flush out toxins from our body.
