Stay Safe In Winter
Summer is retreating and winter is ready to take that place. But are you really ready to welcome this chilly season? Winter not only means party, Christmas, and playing with snow balls.
Give attention on some realities that is power cut, failure of heating system, freezing of water pipe, shortage of food and drinking water, frost bite, and so many things.
Take timely steps to keep yourself and your family safe.
In winter sometimes extremely cold temperature comes accompanied with winter storm. During this time the safest thing is to lock you inside the home. But there are indoor hazards too. Because of power failure or for other reasons your home seems to be very cold to you. What will you do then?
Store alternative furnace fuels such as dry firewood, coal, kerosene, kerosene heater etc. See that there are sufficient numbers of blankets, quilts and winter garments.
Exposure to extreme cold temperature can lead to hypothermia, frostbite, etc. and other grave health problems. Mainly infants and aged persons are prone to these problems but anyone can get affected. Extreme hypothermia can send you from shivering and chills to coma and death.
When the body temperature lowers below 95F, accompanied with shivering, exhaustion, slurred speech, memory loss, fatigue, etc. then it is regarded as hypothermia. Frostbite occurs when the tissues of the body freeze deeply in the cold. Those portions become completely senseless. People do not feel any pain but they lose the mobility of these parts forever. So take care of it. Always carry a first aid kit and manual with you and keep one at your home.
Sometimes because of too much ice you may have to remain confined in your home for some days. Make sure that you have sufficient amount of stored food. Keep in mind the storing of baby food in great amount if you have small children.
Foods, those which do not need any cooking or refrigeration, such as bread, crackers, cereal, canned foods, dry fruits, chocolates, etc. should be stored in great amount. Adequate drinking water (5 gallons per person) should be stored at home in winter season to avoid shortage of drinking water if the water pipe freeze and break away.
Other equipments such as match box, snow shovel, flash light, battery powered lantern, extra battery, etc. should be at your reach.
