Solid Food For Baby
Every child is entitled to have nutritious food for proper healthy growth. For the first six months of their development from birth infants survive on breast milk which is very essential to protect the babies from infection and improve the immune system.
With continuous research in the field of breast milk the medical community is spreading awareness, about the importance of breast feeding. It is not only economical but also a nutritious food for a growing baby. However certain mothers are unable to produce sufficient quantities of milk, hence with the doctor’s advice they can substitute milk products that are safe and healthy.
The Right Time To Introduce Solid Foods:
Solid foods can be introduced when babies gain double the birth weight. The babies should be able to sit with basic support and when their necks are able to hold on their own. These developments are seen within four to six months.
For babies within four to six months, single grain food supplement such as rice can be introduced. Slowly many other new cereals can be given but one at a time. However they need to be given at week’s interval so that the babies know the taste and their digestive system gets adjusted.
Once outside food are introduced look out for symptoms that can cause inconvenience to babies when they start taking cereals. It can be diarrhea, vomiting and rash, whatever may be the symptom, and it needs immediate medical intervention. Take adequate care in preparing the cereal food and do not add extra sugar or honey to the baby food.
From six to eight months introduce vegetables, fruits and proteins. These can be given in small quantities and slowly increase the quantity. However breast feeding the child before every meal is essential as it increase the nutrition value.
Once you feel your baby has settled to fruits and vegetable routine, proteins sources such as meat soup, egg, fish, yoghurt and mashed beans should be introduced gradually so that they have balanced diet for a proper growth. Babies have small eating capacities and higher metabolism, with proper care and nutritious food, babies can develop into healthy children with good eating routines.
