Social Networking On The Computer
The internet is a great facility to have as it can give you any sort of information that you may need. You can use it to plan vacations, check on business opportunities an it is great for the school going kids in case they need to find information and pictures and some project work.
But with the internet comes a few problems. Parents are not that much in control of their children in these times. They are not as innocent as they used to be and there is a lot of peer pressure. Internet allows you to get on various networking sites; one of them being face book and another twitter.
Children as young as nine and ten are on face book. Are you aware that the legal age to get on these sites is thirteen? So if your child is on it; it is probably you that have created this or her account. This is illegal and is punishable by law. Most kids know of face book and think it is cool.
If your child is on it, then slowly the child begins to join groups, adds his or her comments on things ranging from their school, their social life and their other activities. Photographs of the child along with friends and family and school become public and as such create a bad effect.
If your child is on face book inform him or her about its implications and delete the account. If the child is adamant then get to know the Childs password and tell them they must not join any groups or post photographs as well as not accept friends that they do not know. A good idea would be to approach the child’s class teacher and ask her to have a discussion on this frightful problem. Children often listen to their teachers and not their parents.
Even at the age of thirteen you must see that you the parent are part of the friend circle on face book. This way you can monitor your child and what he or she is doing on this social networking site. Use the internet safely.
