The first and foremost step is to take a sample of the skin which is affected by the impurities. It is removed using proper equipments. Then it is examined using a microscope.

The most common causes behind the skin problems are actions of the fungi and bacteria, weather conditions and some other kinds of problems. The examination method is referred as skin biopsy.  The result of this procedure helps the doctor is detecting whether your skin problem is cancerous or non cancerous. Skin sample means any part of the area or may be a mole would be taken for checking.

Types of skin biopsy:

Some procedure and methods have been developed which are being used for taking the sample of the skin. The choice of the method directly depends on the position and the size of the lesion.

The area which is affected is taken off using scalpel and the portion on the body which is cut is stitched afterwards. This is called excision biopsy.

Shave biopsy: In this the affected layer is removed by the use of a scalpel or a surgical knife. Basically the over growth of the skin is shaved off. The opening of the skin is closed by stitching and the bleeding is stopped by applying some pressure or the use of chemicals.

Another type is a punch biopsy. In this method sharp equipment which looks like a cutter is used for removing the fluid filled mole of your skin. It might not be fluid filled but the proper layer of the skin is removed for detection. The instrument which is used is so sharp that sometimes it creates wound for which stitching is used to join the skin. Bandage is also required after this.

Incision skin biopsy: An instrument is injected inside the skin and then a scalpel is used for removing or taking the affected area of the skin. This might result in a bleeding which might require stitching and dressing as well.

There is another method also where the skin is removed using a syringe. The syringe is directly inserted inside the fluid mole or may be that part which does not have any filling.

After the methods are used the sample is kept in a clean container. Then it is given for further examination under the microscope.

Skin biopsy is used to judge:

1.  Whether the person is suffering from skin cancer or not.

2.  Whether he or she are not suffering from any signs of psoriasis.

3.  Fungus and bacterial actions which might lead to infections.

You need to take some precautions before going for a skin biopsy. Some of them are:

Stop taking any sort of antibiotics or drugs especially medicines that are anti inflammatory. If it’s not possible then better tell your doctor about it before he starts your biopsy. Chemical or may be non chemical medications are responsible for hormonal and other internal changes which might have a direct affect on the skin and result in changes during the skin biopsy also.

Pregnancy symptoms: If there are signs that the person might get pregnant she should surely consult her doctor before the biopsy.

You should also take advice of the doctor in case you are suffering from any sort of bleeding problems or even if you are taking any medications for it as they might also create problems during the treatment.

A common risk is attracted to skin biopsy which is internal infection and continuous bleeding as well.  In some cases acne and scars are also detected right after the biopsy. Stick to the advice of your doctor after undergoing the treatment as you might have to suffer some problems even after taking this solution.
