Perricone Diet for Skincare
The Perricone Diet has been prepared by Dr Nicholas Perricone who is a dermatologist. He has written many books on skin care and has also launched his own brand of cosmetics.
The Perricone Diet is based on the goodness of certain fruits for the skin. Dr Perricone believes that some foods cause inflammation of the skin leading to allergies and breakouts. According to him there is another group of foods that can counter the ill-effects of these foods and make the skin clean and clear.
The idea of the Perricone Diet originates from the belief that consuming foods like breads, pastas, pizzas, sugar and bananas leads to inflammation of the skin that is responsible for appearance of wrinkles. The inflammation is the result of high levels of glycemia in the foods. On the other hand avocado, peaches, berries, green leafy vegetables and salmon are good foods that help fight inflammation and improve the skin’s texture.
The Diet suggests eating lean protein first for every meal during the day. Consumption of lean protein has to be followed by foods low in glycemic levels but rich in nutrients. Simply put, if you have 2 egg whites for breakfast then this can be followed by two avocadoes.
Don’t forget to drink at least 350 ml of water after each meal. By eating this breakfast one cuts a generous amount of saturated fat, sugar and salt from the diet. Salmon is greatly recommended for lean protein. But salmons are expensive and since this diet has to be followed for at least 28 days one can try substituting other lean protein foods once in a while.
The Perricone Diet has often been compared with the Zone Diet. The truth is that unlike in the Zone Diet, Perricone Diet has a limited number of foods to choose from. As a result people also lose weight very fast during the 28 days of Perricone Diet. This is a protein rich diet that is very low in fat, glycemia and carbohydrate.
The Diet can be problematic for vegetarians since they will have to find substitute for salmon. This means that they will have to depend more on foods like broccoli and also on whole grains like oatmeal.
If one religiously follows the Perricone Diet for 28 days they will not only have improved skin texture but would have also lost weight.
