Obesity – A Lifestyle Abuse
According to doctors, obesity is going to be the number one disease in the coming decade. This is mainly because of increasing demand of junk food. It is the fastest growing problem which most of the urban people are facing these days.
Obesity is the condition where excessive fat is accumulated in the human body which presents a risk to health. Not only this, when our body weight is more than the required weight it invites disability, disease and premature death. Obesity or over weight is associated with number of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer, hypertension and heart disease.
There are a variety of reasons which contribute to obesity. Some of them are:
• Genetic factors
Doctors recommend that those who have a genetic predisposition towards obesity must improve their diet nutrition and physical activity so that they are less likely to gain excess weight.
• Eating habits
Skipping meals is a potential cause for obesity. Some people consume food very fast, without taking enough time to chew which results very often in consuming more food. People tend to over eat when they are depressed, sometimes just to avoid wastage of food.
• Improper food habits
In this so called modern society, healthy food is not convenient. Most of the convenience foods are high in sugar and saturated fats and not only that. They are also a lot cheaper than healthier options. Researchers have found that where there is more fast-food corners, more is the rate of obesity in that particular area.
• Increased sedentary life style
Increased car ownership has resulted in children being dropped to their school by car. Obesity is a natural contribution of an advance economy in which we get so many labor saving devices and low cost easily accessible foods which lead people to eat more and exercise less.
So don’t be misguided in your attempt to loose weight. Even small changes can make along term difference in weight. It is seen that the kids who sit down to eat with their family tend to have a more normal weight. Parents can provide structure for the meal.
We should try to eat a proper well balanced meal. Watch TV and eat separately. Try to be more active. Together go for a walk after dinner, and spend quality time with your kids. Try to play games like football, tennis ec; on holidays.
