Natural Treatment for hiccups
Hiccups: Hiccups are the reflex actions that are out of control of us. Hiccups occur due to the contraction in the muscles of diaphragm which divides chest and stomach from each other. Some other causes of hiccups are eating the food too fast, eating spicy and hot food, kidney problems, disorders in stomach and sudden excitement.
Below mentioned are some of the home remedies for hiccups:
Bag the hiccups: One of the good home remedies for hiccups is to breathe in a brown paper bag. Seal this brown paper bag around your mouth and breathe in it. This will concentrate carbon dioxide and thus will restore the contractions of diaphragm and calm the diaphragm.
Swallow: Another effective home remedy for hiccups is to swallow dry ingredients. Dry ingredients include small portion of dry sugar or dry bread. Swallowing liquid ingredients can also prove beneficial for hiccups. You can drink a cup of water while keeping your ears blocked. This may help in creating a vacuum that is powerful enough to release the air that is ingested. You can also swallow a spoon of honey or a teaspoon of dill seeds.
Avoid spicy foods: Spices can cause hiccups as they can irritate the food pipe and stomach which in turns releases acid from the stomach. This acid released is the cause of having hiccups.
Eat slowly and required: You should eat slowly because eating fast fills air in the pieces of food which in turn sets off the vagus nerve. Take small sips of water in between to make sure that the amount of air intake is minimized. Also, you should not just overload your tummy. Hiccups occur if you eat more, as the body wants to tell you that you should stop eating now.
Avoid Alcohol: Excessive drinking of alcohol should be avoided as the lining of food pipe can be damaged with it. Also, it should be drunk slowly otherwise it can lead to acute ingestion.
Antacid: You can also take one or two tablets of antacid so as to make the nerves quiet and thus decrease irritation. Antacid is very helpful in removing hiccups because it contains magnesium.
Gargle : Gargling with lukewarm water is another home remedy to get rid of hiccups.
