Being pregnant is a pleasant experience for woman who wants to become mother. But pregnancy also brings some problems to the expectant mother such as morning sickness, mood swings etc.
Mood swings are common among expectant mothers so you don’t have to worry about it. However, you must take measures to control mood swings otherwise it may harm you and your baby in many ways. Given below are some causes why you get mood swings and how to overcome it.
There are two hormones; estrogen and progesterone in women which are responsible for sexual activities, reproduction etc. These hormones are also responsible for mood swings during pregnancy.
When you get pregnant, these hormones get imbalanced and eventually mood swing is caused. Mood swings mostly occur during 1st semester. However this can occur in 2nd semester also.
If mood swing occurs in 3rd semester, you should not be surprised because it depends upon the health of the pregnant women and in the environment in which she is staying.
There are many reasons for mood swings. One of the main reasons is her anxiety about her baby. Most expectant mothers constantly worry whether they would be able to deliver their child without any complications or not.
Whether their child would be healthy or not? What if miscarriage takes place? Thus anxiety and stress lead to mood swings. Mood swing also occurs when changes in metabolism take place.
In mood swing a person can immediately go into depression after enjoying a joyous moment. For mood swings no special or serious reason is needed. A person’s mood can change at any time and on any matter.
To avoid mood swings you need to take some measures. You must sleep well at night. Due to lack of sleep, you will suffer from fatigue, depression and eventually mood swings. It is better if you take a nap during daytime too.
You must exercise regularly so that your serotonin levels remain normal. Due to decrease in serotonin too you experience mood swings and depression.
Eat foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as fish (salmon, tuna), flaxseeds, bananas, eggs, oats etc. These foods cure depression and give you relief from mood swings.
To avoid mood swings, do not remain isolated. Be involved in watching movies or doing recreational activities with your family members or friends. Above all, avoid stress about worrying about your child’s birth.
