Maintenance And Cleaning Of A Fish Tank
When you set up a fish tank in your home or office, it is necessary to know how to maintain and clean it. Having a clean tank with colorful healthy fishes will attract everyone’s attention and it will be a soothing experience for you and your family. To keep your fish tank clean, you need to keep the following things in mind:
• Placement of the tank should be in such a place that there is enough room for cleaning. If you set up the tank in such a place where it is hard to get into, then it will not be cleaned on a regular basis.
• A large tank requires less maintenance in comparison to smaller tanks because of its volume. It remains less dirty with waste and chemicals from excreted fish. So prefer to buy a big tank, with a capacity of at least 50 gallons.
• Filtration system is the most important factor in keeping the tank clean. Mechanical and chemical filters both are available to keep the tank clean. Mechanical filter is fitted inside the tank and works to filter out waste particles. Chemical filter uses some chemical to absorb the waste.
• Those who are fond of fishes feed their fish too often. But this practice is unhealthy for fishes; the excess food in the water pollutes the environment also. Only that amount of food should be given to the fishes that they can eat. Always follow the instructions written on the fish food packets.
• Your tank should not be filled with too many fishes. This will pollute the tank water by creating excessive waste; and food particles and chemicals will float around and make the maintenance difficult.
• You have to maintain the temperature of the tank regularly. Note the temperature every morning and evening and regulate it accordingly with the help of thermostat and heater.
• For maintaining a healthy tank, you should check all the equipments like filter, heater and lights etc. to see whether they are working properly or not.
• Carrying out a water check is necessary. Make sure the water is not dirty.
• Check the behavior of the fish regularly. See if they are swimming normally or not. Also observe their skin carefully to know if there is any sign of disease.
The key to a well maintained fish tank is never to overfeed the fishes; filtration should be okay and keep fish limited to a manageable number.
