    Low Calorie Salad Dressings

    Salad is extremely important for a healthy diet plan. But they can be too fattening, if they are served with high calorie dressings. Salad that are served with ham, cheese, mayonnaise dressing, sesame seed and eggs etc. can contains more than 1000 calories. However, it is possible to enjoy the healthy and fulfilling salads without adding additional calories to your diet.

    Many people consider salads as boring but in reality salad can be made delicious and interesting by including variety of fruits, nuts and vegetables. These type salads are highly effective for weight loss because they contain maximum quantity of fiber and nutrients.  Salad are usually served as appetizer but salads made with fruits, green vegetables and nuts can be a complete low calorie meal on its own and help to maintain  a healthy weight because they are full of antioxidants and vitamins.  By experimenting with ingredients like nuts, fruits, lean meats and dressings, you can prepare flavorsome salads with variety of tastes.

    Salad using lettuce can fulfills the requirement of vitamins, lutein and folic acid and contains only 10 calories for a cup. To create different taste, flavor and nutritional benefits use spinach, mustered leaves and kale or any other fresh veggies. Prepare salad with cucumber, pepper, broccoli, onion, carrots, cauliflower and tomatoes. Do not use fried vegetables, or vegetables marinated in high calorie sauces.

    Add lean protein to convert your salad into balanced meal. Grilled chicken, tuna, low fat cottage cheese, salmon, eggs are good choice to add protein and flavor to you salad. Salad without dressing is incomplete. So, use low calorie dressing or add vinegar or olive oil to dress your salad. Here are some delicious low calorie salad dressings for you and your family.

    Ingredients for dressings:

    1 to 2 onions (minced), dried parsley flakes (3 tbsp), dried green pepper flakes (3 tbsp), salt (½ teaspoon), dried thyme leaves (1 tsp), white pepper (¾ spoon), horseradish (instant) 2 tsp. Mix the ingredients well. A low calorie salad dressing is ready. Keep it in a glass jar in cool dry place. You can use this dressing for 6 months.

    Combine 1 cup of tomato juice and 2 tbsp lemon juice in glass jar, blend well to make a good dressing for your salad. Serve chilled.

    You can make variety of low calorie dressings by using different herbs, salad oil, vinegar etc.  You can get ideas from good cooking books and internet to serve this purpose.
