The complete definition of the word LASER is “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation”. It is a surgery method used for treating major skin allergies and eye disorder. It came into existence in the year 1960 specifically as a treatment for eyes. The tissues which are almost transparent were the input of the device which helped the doctors and surgeons in getting a clear picture of the internal disorder through the directed light beam. Various surgery methods and improvement techniques have been developed since many years which can correct those diseases which never had a cure and often led to blindness for the person.
The surgery is done using a hot light beam which is directed over the affected tissues. This light beam reacts with the internal skin in a way that the tissues get removed easily and the bleeding also stops. In some cases the tissues are left to vaporize properly instead of their complete removal. This is the basic purpose of the laser surgery along with another one where the method leads to the proper destruction lesions and the tumour. The diseased portion gets cured and it also helps in sealing the blood vessels due to which the chances of further bleeding are also reduced.
Laser surgery can be performed few types:
Type 1:
ND: YAG method for laser surgery: This is termed as Neodymium: Yttrium- aluminium – garnet. With the help of this method a proper detection and treatment of the deeply situated internal tissue can be done. The light beam penetrates deeply inside and reaches the affected tissues. The device (ND: YAG) is structured to create a thick or thin (as per the requirement) clot of blood very quickly which helps the doctors in performing their task of treatment. They can see the internal parts properly and even work on them. This method has replaced the invasive surgery which was used earlier.
Type 2:
Argon Laser method: PDT or Photodynamic therapy is the procedure used in this method. It is specifically used for surgery of the eyes and also treating skin problems. The beams are directed towards the tumour which is situated deeply inside. It helps in proper destruction of the tumour by the ways of shrinking or splitting due to which the problem gets cured properly.
Type 3:
Carbon dioxide method of laser surgery: This method it generally performed for reducing bleeding. It is a primary tool which can change the light energy or the beam into heat. It is also used to vaporize the tissues.
If a person is willing to undergo a laser surgery he should have a complete knowledge about the causes and the outcome of the operation. Do not try the treatment of an unexperienced doctor. In some cases doctors might suggest you for taking a surgery even when there is no such need for it.
Traditional methods are also available but sometimes they are not effective. This might be the reason for your case so ask about the variations between the tradition and laser surgery methods in context of your case. Try to take a second opinion as in some cases traditional methods might be beneficial and there would not be any need for a laser surgery. The equipments that are to be used should be licensed and insured. Go for a specialist’s advice before any going for any sort of treatments.
A very harmful effect of surgery is the darkening of the skin if the operation is not performed in a correct way. This is very much seen in cases where the patient’s skin in already dark in colour.
An advantage of this technique is the bleeding gets reduced to a much greater extent and the procedure is often called as a bloodless surgery. It is often regarded as a time and cost effective technique where there is no such risk of spreading germs and infection.
Another benefit which is leading to an increase in the use of laser surgery is its effects which are less pain, no such swelling and best period of recovery.
Be careful and take proper precautions according to the advice of your doctor even when the surgery has been performed. The common results are active and stabilized living.
