Know How to Prevent Stroke
High blood pressure and diabetes are the health issues that arise due to our unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle. These diseases can also cause stroke, a silent killer, which can victimize anyone, regardless of the age group.
What Is Stroke?
Stroke, also called C.V.A (cerebrovascular accident), is one among the prime killers in the US. It is caused by the disrupted blood flow to the brain cells either due to hemorrhage or artery blocks. Artery blocks can occur by the narrowing or thickening of the arteries.
Formation of blood clots within arteries can also lead to stroke. Sometimes the blood supply to the brain cells is disrupted within the heart itself which again result in stroke.
Know Its Symptoms
Sudden weakness of the body, whole or partial, is one of the symptoms of stroke. The person may also face difficulty to speak and to understand. He may also face sudden severe headache and also lose sight in one or both eyes. There may also be a sudden difficulty to coordinate his body movements and he may feel dizzy. Sometimes weakness of the facial muscles may cause drooling. Effective treatment can be done within 3 – 6 hours of attack. So, act fast once you recognize these symptoms.
Preventing Stroke
Do regular checkups. You need to take medication for all those current health problems. Heart diseases such as heart attacks and damage of heart valves that can change your heart rhythm, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. should be treated. According to recent studies, smoking also increases the chance for stroke.
Make a healthy diet chart avoiding all unhealthy foods. You may face temptations but you must strictly follow your diet chart. The foods that contain high levels of salt, fat, cholesterol etc. can increase the risk of brain attack. Saturated fats and high cholesterol levels can result in atherosclerosis i.e. hardening of the arteries leading to the brain. Atherosclerosis increases the chance for stroke.
Reduce oil consumption. Instead of red meat, include white meat. Include vegetables and fruits. Avoid fried food items. You may either bake or steam your food. Reduce salt consumption. Avoid processed foods and tin foods. Include either fish or fish oil in your diet.
Also limit intake of alcohol. Try to relieve stress by practicing meditation or yoga. Also you need to do regular exercises to keep your body fit.
If you follow a healthy diet and lifestyle, you can prevent the onset of many diseases including stroke.
