Keep Your Child Protected From Toxic Toys
Feeling good about your baby’s activities? Perhaps you are mesmerized with the actions; action re-plays, singing notes, dancing steps and many a similar thing by your baby. And now to let him learn things better, to make him busy in his own world and to see him do lot many heart winning acts you bought him houseful of toys and games sets.
Good to know that. But, are you aware of the toxic effects of the toys that you just bought for your child? Are you prudent enough to find what chemicals and components are used in manufacturing the toy games and other sets that you provided your child with? You must open your eyes and see that chemicals and plastic called polyvinyl chloride, or PVC components of toys actually cause lot of harm to your baby’s health.
Some Scary Facts: You must know that the most common phthalates used in the PVC are di-ethylhexyl-phthalate (DEHP), di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP), and di-isononyl-phthalate (DINP).1 Phthalates. They are tested to cause liver cancer, kidney damage, reproduction & sperm production, cardiac and respiratory trouble (the lab results are based on findings when the phthalates were tested on rats).
PVC contains phthalates, lead, cadmium, light stabilizers, heat stabilizers, anti-oxidants, barium, and other chemical compounds. The toys also contain toxic materials like lead, dioxin and are difficult to recycle.
Actions worldwide: Many European countries have urged to withdraw the soft plastic toys from the market and European regulatory bodies have started drawing directives on the use of plastics and PVC in manufacturing toys. Countries like Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain, and Sweden have already recommended the ban of PVC toys.
For Parents: If you are buying plastic toys for your child see if the toy is made of nonchlorinated plastics, such as polyethylene (“2″ or “4″) or polypropylene (“5″). You may also choose to buy wooden, metal or fabric toys; be on the safer side.
Even if the plastic is safer to use and is made from the one mentioned above, make sure that your child does not chew toys while playing.
To see your family happy and healthy you must open your eyes and save your child from toxicity of the very material you handed over to him to play and have fun with.
