Ideal Exercises For Troublesome Knees
Troublesome knees are a problem with most adult women. The pains are so intense that women shy away from exercise and adopt an attitude of ‘let it be’. This worsens the situation as the knees tend to degenerate further due to a lack of exercise/movement. There are several ways of keeping the knee joint flexible, and affected women can decide on the method that suits them best.
Swimming
The best exercise is swimming as this not only exercises the knee joint but also the whole body. Swimming is especially beneficial as the body floats on water and there is no pressure on the knees. In fact, water aerobics can also be done as the water lightens the body weight. However, access to a swimming pool is mandatory for this form of exercise.
Walking
Walking is one of the easiest exercises as it needs no special equipment or technique. A daily 20 –minute walk in the park or on the road is sufficient. However, caution must be maintained that the pace is slow as brisk walking is detrimental to the knees. Additionally, it is better to walk on semi-soft ground as then each step does not pressurize the knees.
Yoga
People generally think that yoga is avoidable as it entails sitting cross-legged on the floor. This is not the case as many yoga exercises and asanas can be done sitting on a sofa or bed. In many cases, yoga has helped people with knee problems as the flexibility exercises loosen the knee joints.
Cycling
Though deemed a good exercise, cycling is not an option for everybody as it necessitates the requirement of a cycle and smooth cycling tracks. However, the cycling machine in the gymnasium can be used.
Physiotherapy
For people with intense pain, physiotherapy may be a necessity as the physiotherapist ensures that the problem area is being treated appropriately. In most cases, physiotherapy is done in the beginning and then, once the pain reduces, other forms of exercise are recommended.
