    How to Treat Depression without Medication

    Depression is the result of modern isolated life. Depression leaves shocking effect on our complete mind and body.  A person in depression does not enjoy any relationship. Friends or family, everything becomes meaningless to him.

    The anti-depressants drugs that are available in the market leave many side effects. They just give symptomatic relief, but they do not target the behavior that contributes to depression. So as and when the patient stops taking drug, the disorder reoccurs. Severe complication can arise due to the side effect of the drugs.

    There are many natural ways to overcome depression. No drugs are required to come out of the depressed situation. These techniques include:

    1.  Brain Switching

    The Brain switching methods that you can try for yourself when you find yourself being depressed are – instead of remaining sad and feeling low, make yourself busy with some games or logical exercises.  You can play Sudoku, online puzzles or chess which needs logical thinking or simply close your eyes and in your mind start singing your favorite song with full concentration. You will forget that you are depressed.

    2. Omega-3 fatty acids

    Include omega-3 fatty acid in your diet which helps the nerve to communicate with each other and improves mental health. Eat fatty fish twice or thrice a week. If you do not eat fish, take vitamin pills containing omega -3.

    3. Aerobic Exercise

    Modern lifestyle where people hardly do physical exercise is, to a great extent, responsible for depression. Exercise and fresh air helps to fight depression and keep mood swing at bay. So, do not confine yourself to the four walls of the home. Go for jogging regularly and enjoy fresh air in the early morning. Coming close to nature will increase your concentration releasing endorphins and help you cheer up. Exercise will make you active and will relieve you from stress. Do running, jogging or swimming whatever you like. Research shows that exercise helps to boost your memory and brain power. Exercise helps the brain to produce serotonin that encourages the growth of new neuron. The antidepressant medicines also enhance the production of serotonin.

    4. Sleep well

    Lack of sleep or its improper pattern is also responsible for depression. Just as body needs serotonin to be fully energetic and active, in the same way, body needs melatonin to get away from sleep. If during day time body produces melatonin, one can feel sleepy dull and irritable. When our body produces wrong hormones at wrong time it causes depression. This imbalance causes due to lack of sleep, lack of access to sunlight, trauma stress and some other factors.

    Develop good sleeping habits. Develop a routine. Go to bed every night same time and little early and wake up early and go out in the sun light. Also try to socialize yourself, make new friends.

    Taking these natural steps can help you to come out of depression easily.
