How To Prepare The Terrace For A Party
Having an accessible terrace that is yours to enjoy is a bonus. Doing it up is an interesting challenge and can always be given to a party decorator or be decorated by family members according to their preferences.
Make a Blueprint
The first step would be to draw out a blueprint (i.e., a layout/drawing) of the terrace that shows entry/exit points, water pipes, electricity connections and danger areas (like low railings).
Decide on the Layout
Using the blueprint, decide on the layout depending on the facilities/ areas that you wish to create (e.g., seating arrangement, beverage bar, barbecue area, etc).
Fortifying the Terrace Boundaries
Terraces are dangerous places as there is a tendency of accidents due the height. It is, therefore, necessary to ensure that the terrace is a safe place for adults and kids. Adequate railings and other safeguards need to be put in place at the very beginning and dangerous areas should be cordoned off.
Create a Garden
The terrace can be nicely landscaped with a temporary waterfall (taken on hire from party decorators) and special plants that are suitable for terraces.
Appropriate Lighting
This depends on the type of party being planned. If it is a dance party, then psychedelic lights and a strobe need to be organised. Alternatively, an informal barbecue party would require mild lighting in the form of lanterns/lamps. However, bright lights must be ensured at the entry/exit point as well as in the area where the food table is laid out.
Seating Arrangements
This, too, is dependent on the type of party. If it is a quiet get together, then adequate seating as per the expected number of guests must be provided. However, if it is a cocktail party or a dance party, where most of the time guests will be standing or circulating around, then some minimum seating needs to be provided.
Selecting the Music and Food
These selections need to be done depending upon the type of party. Light music and a full meal for a regular dinner party, and, rock (dance music) and finger food for a dance party.
