Come summer, and its time for a holiday. School is off and kids get tired of staying at home. Hence, it is a good time to go on a family holiday.
Duration
This will depend entirely on the duration of the children’s school vacation and on the number of days that the father can take off from work (and the mother, if she too is working). If the parents can take only a few days off, the family vacation will have to be at a nearby location so that not much time is wasted travelling.
Hills, Beach or Hometown
During the summer months, the two popular types of places are either the hills or the beach. If your family are water lovers, then head for sandy beaches; or, if they love cooler climates, then opt for a hill station. There is always the alternative to visit grandparents (if they stay elsewhere) and this becomes a good option especially if only one parent can accompany the children on this vacation. Very often, during summer vacations, it is the mother who accompanies the children on visits to grandparents, as the father may not get long leave.
Mode of Travel
This would depend on the best way to reach the desired destination. The best mode of travel (air, road, or rail) should be determined on the following criteria – duration of vacation, travel time and costs.
Make Adequate Enquiries and Evaluate Options
There are host of options available for holidays, and it is wise to do adequate research on the places to visit before finalizing on the destination. Depending on how you like your holidays, there are options of do-it-yourself holidays or complete planned holidays (that are catered to by travel agents). When travelling with small children, it may be a better option to do the former type of vacation as that gives flexibility with regard to timings and activities. Pre-planned tours have a strict itinerary which becomes difficult to manage with children.
