How to Organize a 5-Day Summer Camp for Children (under 10 years of age)
Summer vacations are a boon for children as they can stay at home in the sweltering heat; but it is a bane for parents who need to entertain these kids. One of the best ways out of this situation is to organise a 5-Day Summer Camp for children in your own child’s age group. This way, your child will get to interact with other children and be kept busy at the same time.
Choose the 5 Days
Select the days for the camp. Ideally, it should be Monday – Friday as the weekend is generally family time. However, working mothers can select some weekdays and the weekends as per their convenience.
Select a Time and Duration
The next step is to choose a suitable time as per the age-group. The timing should be such that it does not cut into meal-time or nap-time for the kids. Further, it should not overlap with their outdoor play as the latter is very important. An ideal time is thus in the mornings or late afternoon.
The duration should also depend upon the children’s age. Most young kids have a short attention span and may not be willing to stay away from home and mommy for too long. A two-hour duration per day is a good period.
Identify the Kids
This depends upon whether you wish to charge the parents or conduct the camp gratis. If the camp is being organised with a motive for profit, then notices inviting children can be put up on notice boards within the apartment complex/school (if allowed).
The notice should carry all details about the camp activities, location, duration and cost. However, if the camp is being organised as a good way to pass time, then your kid’s usual circle of friends can be invited to attend.
Plan Out All Activities
A detailed plan of activities should be made out prior to the start of the camp as it will be easy to organise all the materials required. Children need variety as well as activities that are for short durations as they tend to get bored and tired easily. Each day can have a theme and four half-hour (or two one-hour) activities can be planned out.
