How To Make Your Child Eat Right
Have you ever wondered why your child never asks you for a slice of fresh fruit for snack? Why does he/she prefer chips over fruits and nuts? Chances are that you have not instilled the right eating habits in your child. If so, then it’s about time you did it. Show your child how to start eating healthy but turn it into a fun activity.
Children tend to imitate their elders. You should be a role model to your child in all the ways including eating healthy. Don’t complain about putting on weight with every morsel you put in your mouth. Your kids will follow too. Show them that you eat nutritious snacks and never skip meals.
Take your kids along with you when you go shopping for groceries. Keep them involved by asking their choice of fruits and vegetables. When serving their choice at the dining table let the other family members know about it. Making your child help you with the shopping will help your kid make healthy choices when he/she grows up.
When your child is old enough to start eating solid foods make sure that you introduce all vegetables and fruits in his/her plate. Starting them young will help them develop taste for healthy food. Don’t force them to eat all in one go. A few bites of healthy food distributed throughout the day is enough.
Don’t reward your child with candies and chocolates on occasions of celebration. Many kids pick up the habit of binge eating and stress-related binges hen parents treat them to food. This will also help the kids avoid resorting to food as an escape route during time of emotional upheaval. Many kids tend to become overweight when they eat to overcome strong emotions.
Make at least one meal of the day family time. Switch off television and music system when you sit down to eating with the family. Talk about your day and ask the kids about theirs.
You can also talk to them about the health benefits of the food that they are eating. Explain to them the importance of proteins and vitamins for human body. As they eat they will realize how the food is benefitting their bodies. This will help them make the healthy choices in future.
