How to Make Healthy Burgers and Lemon Coolers for Kids at Home

burgers Children love fast food and especially burgers. If they had their way, they would want to eat burgers everyday!!! Make burgers at home and con them into eating healthy and nutritious burgers along with a cooling lemon drink. Lay out the food on a tray (akin to how it is served in a fast food restaurant/diner), add on a party hat and a little toy …..and voila, it’s a fun meal!

Chicken Burgers

(Please note that quantities are given for four burgers)

Ingredients

Four burger buns
250 gms minced chicken
1 carrot grated finely
1 onion chopped finely into small pieces
1 egg
Salt and pepper to taste
Oil for shallow frying

Method

Mix chicken mince, carrot, onion, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl. Divide into four equal portions and form into burger patties (Please note that the mixture will be a little slimy due to the egg but once its on the fire, it will bind quickly).

Put the oil in a non-stick frying pan. Place the burger patties and cook for few minutes on medium flame. Lower the flame, cover and cook for 5-7 minutes. Then, flip the patties and cook covered for 5-7 minutes on the other side. Remove from heat and place in between the burger buns.

If the children eat lettuce, mayonnaise, or tomatoes, these can be added between the burger bun and patties.

A slice of cheese may be added to convert it into a chicken–cheese burger.


Lemon Honey Cooler

Add on a beverage for the meal that is both nutritional and cooling. This drink can be made by the child while the burgers are being assembled.

Ingredients

1 lemon (juice extracted). Make sure that the bitterness of the rind is not passed into the juice.
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon honey
1 glass chilled water
1 sprig of mint (optional)

Method

Put all ingredients (except mint) into a blender and mix. Pour into a glass and top with crushed ice and sprig of mint.
