Cockroaches are commonly found household pests. There are about 4000 species of cockroaches. Out of these 30 are associated with human habitations and 4 are pests. They are mostly found in kitchen and in garbage. They live human or pet food. They often lead to allergic reactions and asthma patients are badly affected by it.
Some common ways to keep cockroaches away:
Stop their entry:
The first way to keep cockroaches away is to stop their entry. It is said prevention is better than cure. Here are some tips to prevent cockroaches come to your home.
Keep your kitchen clean, store food in air-tight container.
Use dustbins with tight lids.
Avoid accumulation of water. If there is any leakage, repair it as soon as possible.
Seal the entry points of cockroaches such as holes in cabinets, doors, pipelines etc.
Keep your kitchen very clean. Wash dishes and clean furniture everyday and clean the kitchen shelves timely.
Clean drains regularly.
Paint your furniture with enamel and keep the shelves, drawers clean.
Don’t keep junk at home. Clean out the things which you don’t use anymore like old furniture, clothes and newspapers.
Mop your floor daily. It is suggested to use phenyl water while mopping.
Clean your toilet and bathroom regularly. Don’t dump clothes in bathroom for long hours.
Keep naphthalene balls in kitchen sink and washbasin.
Spray:
When the cockroaches have already entered your house, you need to kill them. Cockroach sprays are easily available. Spraying regularly will kill cockroaches and resist them dwelling at your home.
Borate Powder:
Borate powder is an effective chemical treatment to get rid of cockroaches. Apply borate powder in cockroach-prone areas. The powder sticks on the bodies of cockroaches when they walk through it. When they lick the poisonous powder, they die. Keep borate powder away from the reach children.
Cockroach Baits:
Bait contains food that attracts cockroaches. When they eat bait, they return to their hiding place and die. Other roaches when eat the body of poisoned cockroach, they also die.
