How To Bring Up a Healthy Child
“Bringing up a child is quite a tough job and you need to ensure that he or she grows up into a healthy person.”The word ‘healthy’ refers to both mental and physical health. There are various factors that play a dominant role in healthy upbringing of a child. These factors are food, general nutrition, learning, everyday routine and of course, social factors.
Providing the child with a nutritious diet and keeping him or her physically active is no doubt crucial for keeping a child healthy.
If your child eats too much of high calorie foods and leads a passive life then he or she will get obese. Obesity not only attracts various health problems, it also becomes a hindrance to a child’s mental development. Thus a child can become dull.
Obesity also brings depression in them and kills their desire to do anything new.
So they should be provided with a nutritious and balanced diet consisting of carbohydrates, protein and fat. Carbohydrates provide energy and children need it in great amount. Protein helps them in muscle development and right amount of fat is needed for brain development.
Give them high fibrous food such as whole grain breads, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, broccoli, lettuce, beans, Brussels sprouts, okra etc. These provide the adequate amount of roughage for cleaning the colon, an important part of the digestive system.
Children have a natural inclination towards TV.Instead keep them physically active. Encourage them in outdoor games. Take them out for outdoor activities. You yourself should take part in outdoor activities as children often follow the elders.
Swimming is also a good exercise for children. For their mental development let them mix up and interact with the children of same age. Let them solve puzzles and create new things with building blocks. This enhances their power of judgment and decision making.
Maintain healthy social relations among yourselves. Eat at least one major meal together and try to have some fruitful discussion at the table.
You parents play an important role in helping your child. You have the power to set examples. Make your daily life full of joy. Set an example for active living. Let your children learn that good health depends on the right balance between what they eat and how much active they remain.
