How To Cook Barbecue Chicken Without A Barbecue Set
Food that has been cooked on the barbeque (or a charcoal grill) is good for health as it contains very little oil. However, this style of cooking necessitates an grill or a barbecue set. But no worries, in the absence of a barbecue set, a nice barbecue-style chicken can be cooked on the regular gas burners. This form of chicken provides a little gravy as well.
Ingredients
4 chicken breasts (cut into 8 pieces)
3 onions, made into a paste
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 capsicum, chopped into thin slices
2 tablespoons soya sauce
4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
2 table spoons chilli sauce
2 tablespoons oil (vegetable/olive)
Method
Take a heavy bottomed pan (or a pressure cooker) and place on the fire. Add the oil and sauté the onions till slightly brown. Add the ginger and garlic paste and cook till done (about five minutes). Add the chicken pieces and brown slightly. If the chicken starts sticking to the base, a few drops of water can be added (this can be done at any stage, whenever the chicken sticks to the bottonm of the pan).
Once the chicken pieces have browned, add some water and cook on low heat (preferably covered) till the chicken is tender. Reduce water levels to a thick (sauce-like) consistency. Add the capsicum, tomato ketchup, soya sauce, chilli sauce, salt and pepper. Cook for five minutes. Please note that the gravy should be thick and not watery.
Take off the fire and place into a serving dish.
Accompaniments/ Side Dishes to the Barbecue Chicken

- Tomatoes – These can be cooked like the potatoes (except for the boiling bit)
- Fresh green salad comprising of a variety of lettuce leaves, olives, cucumber and tossed in a slight salad dressing of your choice
