How To Care For Your Nails
A clean pair of hands with manicured nails is a manifestation of a person’s well groomed look. Manicured nails do not necessarily mean that they are the product of a professional manicurist; but that, that they are clean and neat at all times.
Everyday Cleaning
Whether nails are long or short, they must be cleaned everyday. A nail brush can be kept near the washroom basin so that whenever you go to wash your hands, little food and dirt particles can be brushed out from under the nails. Sometimes, these particles are not visible in painted nails and become a source for infection.
Manicure
Depending on your work schedule, a professional manicure can be done at regular intervals. Even twice a year is a good option as long as in the interim the nails are trimmed and cleaned regularly.
Natural Nails
It is not necessary to have painted nails at all times. A natural look is often welcome. At times, nails should be kept free of nail paint as the chemicals in nail paint often harm the nails by causing them to dry up, and get white patches.
Protecting Nails
Nails must be protected as breakage causes pain and makes them look ugly. Protective nail enamels, like a base coat, should be applied to keep the nails strong. Often, the chemicals used in dark coloured nail paint cause the nails to become yellow. This can be avoided by using a base coat prior to applying the nail paint.
Chipped and Broken Nails
There is nothing worse than chipped and uneven nails. As soon as any nail gets chipped, it should be trimmed and filed as soon as possible. If nails break and get removed from the bed (of the nail), then they should be shown to a doctor. Sometimes, nail breakage may cause bleeding, and this too, requires immediate medical attention as the nail may become bluish-green forever.
