How to Be a Good Leader
There are teams in every sphere of life: school sports teams, college dramatics team, project teams and office teams, etc. These teams comprise of a group of diverse personalities who must gel together with each other to perform well; and thus require a fair amount of guidance and amalgamation by the team coach, mentor or leader. The following are some ways to achieve a perfect blending of all team members.
Build Confidence Levels
The mentor/guide must build the team’s confidence at all levels. At no point of time should feelings of inadequacy seep into the team. The mentor must always behave and react in a positive manner.
It’s the Team Together and not any Individual Independently
Sometimes, due to the negligence of an individual, the whole team may suffer. But, this should not be highlighted and the team must face the consequences together. This element is essential as it makes team members realise that they are responsible to themselves individually and to the team together.
Celebrate Birthdays
A good way to create bonding amongst team members is to celebrate birthdays. This need not be done in a lavish way but small celebrations are always welcome. Team members can pitch in to buy a small (but meaningful) gift for the birthday girl/boy. In return, the birthday boy/girl can treat the team to a movie, coffee or ice cream. These small celebrations outside the arena of play/work will help bond the members together and elicit a feeling of belonging.
The Benefits of Substitution
Each team member is an equal member of the team and they should substitute for one another whenever the need arises. It is important to build this level of bonding amongst the team as no one person should think he/she is above the rest or is indispensable. Further, if a team member is absent, the others should pitch in for him.
