    How Does Vitamin C Benefit Body?

    Vitamin C is an essential nutritious element that plays crucial role in body. Human body needs Vitamin C for healing wounds and speeding up the process of recovery from burn injuries. Vitamin C also helps the body to absorb and extract iron from food. It acts as an antioxidant in improving the immunity of body besides facilitating the creation of specific types of protein that help maintain bone and muscle.

    Lack of Vitamin C adversely affects the function of body resulting in illness. Cases of Vitamin C deficiency are less compared to other types of Vitamin deficiency. Humans are not as capable of generating Vitamin C on their own as other mammals.

    Regular diet is considered to be the main source of Vitamin C for human body. One can get Vitamin C by consuming green leafy vegetables. Fresh fruits too can supply sufficient amount of Vitamin C. Vitamin C can also be taken from fish and germinating pulses.Certain root vegetables can also supply Vitamin C to body. Human body can get sufficient amount of Vitamin C from Guava, lemon, oranges and other citrus fruits.

    Symptoms of Vitamin C Deficiency

    Lack of vitamin C an lead to a condition known as scurvy which can be apparent through swelling in body, painful joints, and bruises of bleeding. Loss of hair too can be the result of scurvy, caused by Vitamin C deficiency.

    All such symptoms show loss of strength in blood vessels of body besides signaling. The body also starts losing collagen due to lack of Vitamin C.

    However, those having lack of Vitamin C for more than 3 months are prone to scurvy. Although primary symptoms are not usually indication of the condition, yet one should always take food rich in Vitamin C for curing this condition.

    Vitamin C deficiency in adults also leads to softening of gums besides causing anemia and turning the capillaries weak. It also leads to drop in collagen levels.

    Those with minor Vitamin C deficiency can feel muscle pain besides showing symptom of fatigue. They also become susceptible to infection.

    Moreover Vitamin C deficiency leads to conditions relating to thyroid besides causing premature aging. The deficiency also causes depletion of immune system.
