homemade facial masks recipeFacial masks are the best instant treatment for dull and tired looking skin. A paste of few natural ingredients mixed together does wonders for the skin when left on for 15-20 minutes.

Natural facial masks work best when you are hard pressed for time to follow a proper skin regime or don’t have the time to visit a professional skin treatment center like a spa or salon.

There are plenty of facial masks available in powder or liquid form to take care of skin troubles like acne, dull skin, tired skin, tanned skin, pale skin, glow-less skin and even injured skin. The masks have cleansing, healing and nourishing effect on the skin. They make a great skin treatment temporarily.

In order to get a flawless and healthy skin the masks should be used regularly. In the meantime they are excellent for taking care of your troubles for a short while as they make the skin soft and glowing.

There are many facial masks available in the market to suit your skin requirement and of course they depend on your skin type. An excellent option is to prepare face masks at home. Not only are they inexpensive and easy to make but you can be assured that they are all natural.

Milk Mask – For Dull Skin

This is the easiest mask to use and preparing it does not require any effort. Simply take cold milk and dip a cotton wool in it. Squeeze the excess milk and rub the cotton all over your face and neck. Leave the milk on the skin for five minutes and wash off with rose water. You skin will become soft and start glowing instantly.

Buttermilk Mask – For Tanned Skin

To prepare this mask you will require

    Three ounces buttermilk
    One tablespoon crushed hibiscus flowers

Heat buttermilk and hibiscus over low flame and bring to boiling point. Keep stirring the mixture so that it does not stick to the pan and burn. Remove from flame when the mixture starts boiling. Allow it to cool and apply on face and neck. The mask has excellent bleaching property and can be used thrice a week to get rid of tan. The mask can be applied to other parts of the body as well.

Oatmeal Mask – For Flaky Skin

    Prepare this mask using

    Two tablespoons coarsely ground oatmeal
One teaspoon fresh cream or Two teaspoon glycerin
Substitute almond oil in place of cream if you have oily skin.

Mix the two ingredients to form a paste of spreadable consistency. Apply the paste on face and neck. Once the paste dries off wet your hands and massage in gentle circular motions to remove the mask from the face.

The mask is good for bringing glow on skin plagued with dead skin cells and blackheads. The mask gently exfoliates removing the debris from skin pores and reveals a bright and clean skin. Use the face mask twice a week if you have normal skin and three times a week for dry or oily skin.

Orange Peel Mask – For Glow

    You will require

One tablespoon dried orange peel powder
    One teaspoon Fuller’s earth
    One teaspoon honey
    Rose water

Mix all the ingredients to form a paste. Apply the mask on face and neck and leave it for twenty minutes. Wash off the mask using cold water. This mask is good for bringing glow on dull and tired skin. Use it twice a week to maintain a healthy sheen for your skin. The mask is good for all skin types.

Cucumber Mask – For Acne Skin

    You will require

    Half a grated cucumber
    One teaspoon lemon juice
    Two crushed pods of garlic

Mix the ingredients well and apply on face and neck. The juice from cucumber will drip so cover your clothes with an old towel. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes and wash off using cold water.

Cucumber will soothe the irritated skin and bring down the inflammation considerable. Lemon juice has astringent properties and will clean the skin pores off sebum. Garlic has anti-bacterial properties that fight the acne causing bacteria.

Potato Mask – For Normal Skin

Take a raw potato and peel off its skin. Cut the potato into two halves. Grate one half and cut two thin slices from the second half. Mix the grated potato with a little water and apply in on face and neck.

Place the thin potato slices on the eyes. Leave the mask for twenty minutes. Remove the slices from the eyes and wash face with cold water. Potato helps deal with tan and pigmentation. Potato slices over the eyes help deal with tiredness and dark circles.

Fuller’s Earth Mask – For Oily Skin

    You will require

    One tablespoon Fuller’s earth powder
One teaspoon coarsely ground cinnamon powder
One teaspoon fresh lemon juice (if you have acne)
Rose water to prepare paste like consistency

Mix the ingredients and apply on face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water. Fuller’s earth has mineral properties that help maintain oil balance of the skin. Oily skin especially benefits from use of this mask. Cinnamon powder has anti-bacterial properties and is also beneficial for exfoliating and getting rid of stubborn blackheads.

You can also add two drops of tea tree essential oil in the mask if you have pimples along with oily skin.

One time use of facial masks is a not permanent solution to your skin problems. To get rid of your skin troubles and keep them at bay facial masks should be used at least three times a week. To see effective results you have to use the masks for at least three months.

The results are not fast but they are long lasting and the natural ingredients used in the masks do not have any side effects. You need not consult your doctor or beautician before using them. All you need to know is your skin type and once you have identified your skin problem you can use a mask accordingly. Just remember not to use any ingredient that does not suit your skin type. Happy masking!
