Home Remedies for Sprain
Sprain refers to an injury of the ligaments of the tissues. It is cause due to overstretch of the ligaments than their normal capacity. The wound may get severe in some cases if the complicacy is not looked into carefully. The similar kind of situation for muscles is known as strain. Children are more vulnerable to sprains and hence parents should pay close attention to any kind of wounds of their children. Immobilization and surgical repair may be necessary in cases where either ligament or muscle tissue is torn. The body parts which are more susceptible to strain include knees, ankles and joints. The major reasons for sprain include a sudden fall, a forceful blow of the body, lifting heavy objects, stepping on an uneven surface and stretching the ligaments more than their normal capacity etc. Care should be taken not to acquire sprains but as it might be understood avoiding sprain completely is not possible. However, with the help of simple and effective home remedies, one can easily get rid of sprains.
Using mustard oil and turmeric powder
Use of mustard oil is very helpful in removing sprains. Take a little mustard oil and message the sprained area. Then sprinkle some turmeric powder on the area. To get more relief, take some salts in a cotton cloth and heat it on an open pan and apply the heat on the sprained area. This will provide relief from sprain within a few minutes.
Using cassia
Cassia leaves may also be used fruitfully to get rid of sprain. Take some leaves of cassia and rub them on the affected area until the juice of the leaves come out. Smear the leaves on the sprained area gently and let it dry for a few minutes. This will not only provide relief from sprain but will also prevent the swelling from occurring.
Using castor leaves
The poultice made from castor leaves is an effective remedy for sprain. Apply the poultice on the affected area for some time leave it there to dry. This will provide immediate relief from sprain and will also prevent swelling. If the poultice is applied in advance, it will stop the formation of swelling due to sprain.
Using almond and garlic oils
The use of almond and garlic oils is very beneficial in removing pain. Apply the mixture made with equal amounts of these oils on the affected area to get quick relief from the pain and swelling.
Using Cabbage leaves
Cabbage leaves are also an excellent remedy for sprain. Boil some leaves of cabbage in warm water and apply these as a bandage over the sprain affected area. This will provide relief from the pain and swelling due to sprain.
Using chopped onion
Onion can also be used as a remedy for sprain. Take some shopped onion covered in a muslin cloth and wrap the affected area with this cloth. This will provide relief from the pain and swelling that occurs due to sprain.
Using dill leaves
Take some dill leaves and boil them in sesame oil. The decoction obtained after this can be used as a very good ointment for getting relief from the swelling and pain that occurs due to sprain.
Using fenugreek
Fenugreek is an excellent remedy for many diseases and injuries including sprain. Make a poultice of the leaves of fenugreek herbs using water and apply this gently over the sprained area and let it dry for some time. This will provide excellent relief from pain and swellings.
Using camphor and sunflower oils
The use of the mixture of camphor and sunflower oils is also very effective remedy for sprain. Take one teaspoonful of camphor oil and a cupful of sunflower oil to prepare the mixture. Apply this mixture on the affected area to get quick relief from the swelling and pain.
