Psoriasis is characterized by red, scaly patches on the skin and is a non contagious disorder. The scaly patches are known as psoriatic plaques. It may affect any part of the body but it is seen predominantly to attack elbows and knee joints. The affected area shows the red patched due to inflammation and excessive skin production. Psoriasis can occur on any part of the body, even genitals and the scalp and in severe cases it affects the whole body. Often, psoriasis accompanies psoriatic arthritis which affects the joints (about10-15% of people with psoriasis are found to have it). Although the exact reason for psoriasis is unknown, it is believed that it has a genetic component. Moreover, stress, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking are the other prominent reasons believed to be behind psoriasis. However, many remedies for psoriasis are available within easy reach at home. Some of the most useful remedies are discussed in this article.

Using Sun light

Sunlight is one of the easiest and most useful home remedies for psoriasis. Persons affected by psoriasis should expose the affected areas in sunlight. Sunlight is believed to produce vitamin D which is a very useful ingredient for healthy skin.

Using Epsom salt

Epsom salt is also a very good remedy for psoriasis. About two to three tablespoonfuls of Epsom salt should be mixed with bathing water. It will help in washing away the dead skin cells accumulated on the skin. This ultimately provides quick relief from psoriasis.

Using olive oil

Olive oil is also considered to be a very effective remedy for psoriasis. Olive oil should ideally be taken after Epsom salt baths to get rid of psoriasis quickly.

Using seawater

Seawater is another useful remedy for psoriasis. For positive results, seawater bath or application of seawater on the affected areas are helpful in regulating the disorder. The salt content of seawater is believed to be the factor for which helps in removing psoriasis.

Use of mudpacks

The use of mudpacks is also beneficial for psoriasis treatment. Mudpacks absorb the dead skin cells and other toxins from the psoriasis affected area and thereby helps in getting quick relief from the disorder.

Using bitter gourd

Bitter gourd is one of the most effective solutions for getting rid of psoriasis. For quick results, a cup of the juice of a fresh bitter gourd should be taken with a teaspoon of lime juice. This medication is more effective when taken early in the morning on an empty stomach for four to six months continuously.

Using cabbage leaves

Cabbage leaves are also a very effective and helpful remedy for psoriasis. The compression of cabbage leaves should be applied on the affected area after thoroughly cleaning the psoriasis affected area by washing with clean water.

Using aloe Vera gel or garlic oil

Use of aloe Vera gel or garlic oil on the affected areas of psoriasis is helpful in diminishing the disorder very quickly.

Using cashew nut oil

The oil extracted from cashew nuts is also very effective in removing psoriasis. The oil should be applied on the affected areas in the night after thoroughly washing the area and it should be left there overnight for getting effective results.

Using wheat germ oil, castor oil and sunflower oil

The mixture of castor, wheat germ and sunflower oils is another effective remedy for psoriasis. Mix about 1 teaspoonful each of castor and wheat germ oils in a cup of sunflower oil and apply it slowly over the affected area. This will provide quick relief from psoriasis and will also provide protection from many other skin diseases.

Using vitamin E

Vitamin E is very helpful in the treatment of psoriasis. A daily dosage of 200-800 I.U is recommended for quick relief from the disorder. The intake of vitamin E will immediately reduce the itching and will provide help in diminishing the patches within a short span of time.
