Home Remedies for Prickly Heat
Prickly heat is medically termed as miliaria. It is characterized by small and itchy rashes on the skin. Prickly heat is more prevalent in hot in humid weather such as in tropical regions and during the summers. Prickly heat is a reason for major annoyance as the itch due to it goes on increasing and in some cases whole body may be affected. Prickly heat occurs when the sweat glands’ ducts gets plugged due to dead skin cells or attack of some bacteria. Prickly heat’s major symptom is the small brown rashes that may be localized in some part of the body. There are various home remedies available for prickly heat. Using oatmeal
Oatmeal is a very effective remedy for prickly heat. Add a few teaspoons of oatmeal powder with the water in a bath tub. Use the water of the tub for bathing. This will provide relief from the skin rashes and will also provide quick relief from prickly heat.
Using Ice cubes
Ice cubes can also be used as a simple home remedy against prickly heat. Rub the pieces of ice cubes on the red swellings of the skin. The ice cubes will provide immediate relief from inflammations and will also remove the rashes.
Using banyan tree barks
Banyan tree’s bark can also be utilized in the treatment of prickly heat. Take the dry barks of banyan tree and mash them into powder. Use this powder on the affected areas to get quick relief from prickly heat.
Using talcum powders and lotions
Talcum powder absorbs the moisture of the skin and due to this property acts as an excellent remedy for prickly heat. Apply herbal and chemical free talcum powder on the affected areas of the skin. It will soak the sweats and provide immediate relief from prickly heat’s itch. Moreover, lotions which have herbal contents can also be used in the treatment of prickly heat. Lotions that contain aloe vera are especially helpful for treating prickly heat. Just take some lotions and apply over the affected area and rub it well into the skin. The aloe vera content will remove the rashes very quickly.
Using fuller’s earth
Fuller’s earth is a very effective medicine for treating prickly heat. Take about 3 teaspoonfuls of fuller’s earth and mix it with equal amounts of rose water and plain water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste over the affected areas to get quick relief from prickly heat.
Using sandalwood
Sandalwood is one of the most useful remedies for treating prickly heat. To make the medicine, take 3 tablespoonfuls each or sandalwood and coriander powders. Now add 4 teaspoonful of rose water to the mixture and make a fine paste. Apply this paste on the affected area and let it dry. After the paste dries, wash off with plain water. This will give immediate relief from prickly heat. The paste acts as a cleanser and provides relief to the skin by removing the dead skin cells and killing any bacteria which may be present.
Using margosa leaves
Margosa leaves are also very useful in treating prickly heat. Take a few leaves of margosa and with the help of water, mash it into a fine paste. This paste can be applied over the affected areas and after application it should be left on the skin to dry. The antibacterial property of margosa helps killing the germs. Margosa leaves are also very good for the skin in general. It will provide immediate relief from other skin diseases as well, if any, present there.
With plain water
Plain water can also be used to treat prickly heat. Soak a clean towel or a piece of sponge in water and keep it over the affected area until the water from the towel or sponge dries out. This will clean the pores of the skin and thus help removing prickly heat.
