Home Remedies For Nasal Congestion
Nasal congestion refers to blockage of the nasal passage which may occur due to various reasons. The most common reason for nasal congestion is swelling of membranes lining the nose due to inflammation of the blood vessels. It is a major reason for annoyance but can be a life threatening condition, especially for the children.
Since newborn children can only breathe through the nose, nasal congestion can be a serious threat for them during early childhood. Nasal congestion often interferes with ears affecting hearing and speech development. In severe cases it may interferes with sleep causing sleep apnea, snoring and periodic non-breathing episodes during sleep. Usually, nasal congestion is considered as a condition rather than a disease and there are various home remedies available to treat the condition.
Using black pepper
Black pepper is one of the most influential home remedies for nasal congestions. Taking 4-5 black pepper seeds in the morning or inhaling the fume produced due to burning black pepper seeds is helpful in providing relief from nasal congestion.
Using carom seeds
Carom seeds are also very useful in treating nasal congestion. Take a few seeds of carom and make its powder or simply take some seeds of cardamom wrapped in a cotton cloth and put it near the pillow. The smell of carom will help in recovery of nasal congestion. It is one of the most fruitful techniques to get rid of nasal congestion.
Using garlic and tomato soup
Garlic and tomato soups can also be used to treat nasal congestion. To prepare the soup, take 2-3 tomatoes and boil in about a cup of water. Add to it a teaspoonful of garlic paste and stir the mixture well. Then add a little butter and black pepper powder to it. You can also add a pinch of salt for taste. Take this decoction thrice every day. It is very effective in curbing nasal congestion and provides fast relief.
Using cardamom seeds
Cardamom seeds are also quite effective in curing nasal congestion, especially in case of children. Take 3-4 cardamom seeds and put it on fuming hot coal. The smoke coming out of it should be inhaled to get relief from nasal congestion.
Using horseradish
Horseradish is also a very effective home remedy for nasal congestion. Grate horseradish and taking 2 teaspoonfuls of it, add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or honey. Keep this mixture on the tongue and take deep breath. The smell coming out of the solution is considered to be an excellent remover of nasal congestion.
Using apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar fumes are also an excellent way to get healed from nasal congestion. Take apple extract vinegar in a frying pan and heat it to inhale the fumes coming out of it. It will provide immediate relief from nasal congestion.
Using saline water
Water therapy is also a very good remedy for nasal congestion. Take a little boiling water and add a pinch of salt to it. Store it in a clean, bacteria free vessel and with help of dropper put 2-3 drops of water to each nostril keeping the face upwards. This will clear the blockage and provide excellent relief from nasal congestion.
Using baking soda
Baking soda is also considered to be a very effective home remedy for nasal congestion. Add a teaspoonful of baking soda with salt solution and apply this in the nostrils to get relief from nasal congestion.
Using grapefruit juice
Grapefruit juice acts as an excellent inhaler in providing relief from nasal congestion. For preparing the inhaler, mix a few drops of grapefruit juice in lukewarm water. This can be inhaled to get relief from nasal congestion and sinusitis. This remedy can be applied while going to bed for getting quick relief.
Using peppermint oil
Peppermint oil can also be used as an inhaler for getting relief from nasal congestion. Just put a few drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball and inhale it for getting immediate relief from nasal congestion.
