Home Remedies For Mange
Mange is a condition from which primarily dogs suffer, where tiny mites or parasites infest their skin, leaving it sore, scaly and itchy.
These mites burrow into the skin of the animal and drink its blood. Apart from this, they cause rather bad allergic reactions.
In extreme cases, the animal could die due to mange. If you are wondering whether your pet is suffering from mange, watch out for the primary symptoms – dehydration, weight loss, loss of appetite and constant scratching. The animal’s skin might become scaly with bald patches and the primary spots of infestation at the onset are the ears, snout and folds of the paws.
While you can take your pet to a good veterinarian to resolve this problem, there are home remedies for mange that you can try initially. However, if you find that the condition deteriorates, discontinue home remedies and visit a professional. Some of the proven home remedies for mange are below.
Hydrogen Peroxide and Borax
A mixture of 1% hydrogen peroxide solution mixed with borax and water is very effective in treating mange. Ensure that this mixture is fully dissolved in water before applying it to the coat of your dog. Using this solution to wash your dog either once a week or once in 10 days will get rid of mange. A point of caution is that this mixture should not be used beyond two months at a stretch.
Honey
Application of honey on the infected area is beneficial. However, ensure that you do not leave the application on overnight, or your pet’s skin would be bitten by ants by the morning.
Yogurt
Two tablespoons of yoghurt applied to the ears and other parts of the dog, where crusting is especially visible, will help heal the skin and stop discharge due to this condition.
Lemon
Slice a lemon and, while the peel of the lemon is still on, boil it well. Allow the lemon to soak overnight and then apply it to your pet’s coat with a sponge.
Routine Bathing
Ensure that your pet gets a regular bath. It would be great if you could get a tub for your dog and soak it for a few minutes.
Brush Out the Fur
Regular brushing of your dog’s fur will help rid it of mites as well as scaly scabby skin.
