Home Remedies For Jet Lag
Jet Lag is a comparatively modern condition of the body where the internal clock of the body fails to synchronize with the outer clock. This may happen due to changing time zones through air travel. For example when a person flies from New Delhi to New York, all of a sudden the times zones change and the body might react by showing some problems such as irritability, insomnia, indigestion and general disorientation. This condition is known as Jet Lag.
Moreover, the person suffering from Jet Lag may undergo mild depression and show some other symptoms as well. Although it is not a severe disease, people may find it annoying and disturbing the regular routine. Jet Lag can make individuals moody and forgetful. However, many simple remedies are available for curing this condition.
Have a prolonged sleep
A good sleep before the journey could make you feel better after you reach your destination. Try to find out the time you’d reach the destination. This will make you feel better. A prolonged sleep before taking the journey will make you fresh and active. So, go for some extra sleep before you start the journey.
Drink lots of fluids
Fluids are essential to keep the body away from dehydration, which is a fairly common problem with long distance flights. Drink lots of fluids such as water or orange juice before going out for the journey. In the flight also try to drink as much fluid as you can. However, don’t opt for alcohol as it would make the problem of dehydration worse. Take as much juices as you can with yourself. The best way is to have as much water as one can before starting the journey. It also helps in maintaining the metabolism of the body intact.
Go for exercises
Exercises and keeping the body active will also help you get acquainted with the new destination. Try to walk the aisles periodically on the flight. Moreover, keep doing the simple exercises by stretching and moving your body while you are seating. Moreover, try to unwind in your new place. If there is a pool or a gym try to do some little exercises to keep your body fit. This will prevent you from getting Jet Lag.
Have enough time to unwind
It is always better, the doctors feel, to have enough time to unwind before going to sleep in the new destination. Try to reach the new destination fairly early in the evening. For this, of course, you will have to do a little homework. If you’re planning to fly west book your flight a little later than your expectation as you will lose some hours during the flight. While if you are planning to fly east, book the ticket that offers you an early flight, so that you get enough time to unwind before going to sleep in a new place with a different time zone.
Take as much showers as you can
Showers help to refresh your body and provide it much needed relief. Try to use the extra time in airports to have a quick shower, if possible. It will help to keep your body fit and alert. Moreover, having showers would ensure your body remains fresh enough to adjust to the new time zone.
Have a high protein diet
Try to take high protein diets for avoiding Jet Lag. Proteins help in producing catacholamines, which are naturally produced in the active part of life cycle. This will help in avoiding Jet Lag as your body will naturally adjust to the new time zone due to the presence of the bio chemical.
Besides following these simple steps, try to walk a bit out in the new place. Avoid excessive caffeine or tea as it would have a negative impact on the process of adjustment of the body. Try to adjust in the new time zone by changing your habits such as going to sleep in new time and having dinners according to the new time zone. Jet Lag is usually a short term condition but following these simple steps can make it negligible.
