Atheletic foot is an infection caused by fungus that prefers warm and moist conditions. The best breeding ground for the fungus is the shoes that remain closed, dark and warm; thus, causing an infection on the foot.

Although athletic foot is not a severe infection, it may lead to other secondary infections that are quite severe in nature. That is why it’s important to treat the infection as early as possible. Many simple home remedies are available for the infections. Some of the best ways to get rid of athletic foot is discussed here.

Using alcohol and aspirin

The combination of alcohol and aspirin can work wonders for athletic foot. For preparing the medicine dissolve about 4-5 aspirin tablets in ½ cup of rubbing alcohol. The solutioin can be rubbed on the feet after showering or bathing. The aspiring will be soaked into the skin and it will kill the fungus and any bacteria present in the foot. This solution can be used twice daily; while wearing the shoes and later when the shoes are taken off.

Using Corn Scratch

Corn scratch acts as a good adsorbent and it absorbs all the moisture available quickly, which is why it acts as a very good remedy for atheletic foot. It also absorbs the sweat and hence can be applied in the shoes as a powder. It can also be applied on the feet with the help of a brush. Moreover, after washing and drying up the shoes, it can be used to soak any remaining moisture. It will also help soaking the sweat while the shoes are on.

Using Vinegar

Vinegar can also be a good remedy for individuals with athletic food. The vinegar can be applied to the feet with the help of a cotton ball twice daily. The cotton ball can be saturated with vinegar and rubbed on the affected areas. This should be continued for a few more days even after the symptoms vanish as the fungus may come back again.

Alternately, one can mix ½ cup of vinegar, 2 tsp of salt and warm water and dip the feet in the solution. The feet will soak the vinegar and the fungus will get killed in the atmosphere. This is one of the cheapest methods for getting rid of atheletic foot.

Using Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is one of the best remedies for atheletic foot. Just take the oil and apply to the affected areas. Sometimes, the oil may be too concentrated and start stinging. In such a case, it should be diluted using any other oil such as vegetable oil etc.

Using Antiperspirants

Antiperspirants can also be handy for atheletic foot. Just spray it on the foot, especially between the toes before wearing the shoes. The antiperspirant will stop the sweating process and hence the fungus will have no suitable breeding ground; thus, automatically diminishing the disease and symptoms.

Using Chlorinated Water

Chlorinated water can also help getting rid of atheletic foot. Just add 150-200 ml of Chlorox or any other similar laundry bleach to warm (as much as possible) water and dip your feet in the solution. If your skin is sensitive rinse off with water after a few minutes.  If there is no sensitivity just towel off after immersing the feet. However, use a white towel as other colors would get bleached by chlorine.

Using Baking Soda

Baking soda can also be helpful in diminishing atheletic foot. Just apply as powder or make a gel with warm water. This should be applied between the toe fingers and kept for nearly 15 minutes and then washed off with clean water.

It should always be made a point not to keep the feet wet when atheletic foot occurs. Any other drying agent that doesn’t have any side effect may be used in case of the disease. Moreover, one should avoid plastic shoes as it traps the sweat and there’s hardly any ventilation. One should always take care to keep the areas between the fingers dry after bath or shower. Taking simple steps to avoid wetting the feet may work wonders for individuals suffering from atheletic foot.
